About Omar Haroon for Los Angeles County Assessor
Integrity, Transparency & Accountability
Current Deputy Assessor Omar Haroon is a candidate for Los Angeles County Assessor.
Omar Haroon decided to run for Assessor because he wants to bring Integrity, Transparency & Accountability back to the Assessor’s office. Omar’s leadership is greatly needed at this time in the office because the current Assessor John Noguez is on leave pending trial on felony political corruption charges that he allegedly gave tax breaks to certain connected property owners in return for cash payments. It should be noted that Omar played no role in John Noguez’s administration.
Omar’s first point of business if elected will be to restore the public’s faith back in the office. He plans to accomplish this through a public outreach campaign. At a fundraiser he told the crowd, “I want to ensure that the Office of the Assessor is answerable to the people of Los Angeles whom we serve. I will use my managerial and technical expertise and community outreach programs to ensure that every citizen of Los Angeles receives all the tax breaks they are legally entitled to. Everyone should pay their fair share, but no one should overpay.”
To date, his campaign has raised over $100,000 in his bid to be the Los Angeles County Assessor. As he recently stated, “Momentum continues to build for my candidacy. People are excited to see a viable candidate who isn’t a career politician. Someone with a lot of private enterprise experience but whom has also spent time performing the work of the Assessor’s Office. This is what sets me apart from the other candidates and it gives me a unique perspective on how things need to be changed to ensure integrity, transparency and accountability as the Assessor’s Office serves the citizens of Los Angeles County.”
Omar has extensive background in real estate and financial management, including working as a Construction Manager with IDS Real Estate Group, and a Financial Advisor with UBS. Omar earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering from UCLA. He is a native of Los Angeles, born at the Queen of Angels Hospital to parents that immigrated to the United States.
When Omar was asked why he would want to go through the rigors of a campaign he replied, “Los Angeles is where I was born, where I was raised, and where my wife Mariah and I are raising our three children. I am committed to seeing Los Angeles flourish, and I believe I can have a positive impact in the community as your Assessor.”
“Thank you for taking the time to learn about me. For me to accomplish my goal of bringing integrity, transparency and accountability to the Los Angeles County Assessor’s Office, I will need your help. There are many ways you can contribute to all of our success including hosting a fundraiser, donating directly, volunteering, and, of course, voting June 3rd if you live anywhere in Los Angeles County. Please contribute in any capacity that you are capable of, it will make a difference and be greatly appreciated. It is also important that I spread the word of my candidacy. Please share this website with people you know. Thank you again for your time and support.” – Omar Haroon
